Giving Voice to the Korean American Community
Sejong Cultural Society of Chicago will hold its first International Sijo Competition, which will be open to participants globally. Deadline for submission is set for September 30.
Since 2008, Sejong Cultural Society has been hosting a writing competition with essay and sijo (traditional Korean poetry) categories. This separate international contest has been developed for poetry enthusiasts outside the U.S. and Canada. This contest is offered in one division, and is open to poets of any age. Contestants may be from any country (including the U.S. and Canada). Entries must be written in English, and one entry per applicant is permitted. Previously published (or awarded) sijos will not be accepted. Entries must be received as an online submittal by September 30, 11:59 p.m. CST. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winner ($500), runner-up ($250) and honorable mentions ($100).
Other details and resources, including sijo samples, and links to video workshops about this poetry form, are available on the website (link below).
