Giving Voice to the Korean American Community
To mark the 70th anniversary of the armistice which halted the combat of the Korean War, a three-day event will be held in July in Washington DC to push for a peace agreement to formally end the Korean War.
The event, dubbed Korea Peace Action: National Mobilization to End the Korean War will take place July 26-28, 2023. The organizers include peace activists, humanitarian aid organizations, and groups representing veterans, faith traditions, and Korean American communities.
The activities will include a Congressional media briefing, a community grief ceremony, a rally in front of the White House, and a march to the Korean War Veterans Memorial for an interfaith candlelight vigil.
On Friday, July 28, there will be a conference at George Washington University, entitled “Prospects and Challenges for a Peace Agreement,” featuring a panel with a keynote speech by eminent Korea historian Bruce Cumings on the human costs of unending war.
Registration is required due to space limitations, but there is no fee. For more information: www.koreapeaceaction.org
